Aurochs Nova wins on leather quality, usability and expected durability

Another finely crafted wallet from Aurochs in Pakistan. Made of full-grain veg tanned leather from southeast Asian tanneries, the cut, fit, sewing and finish of the Nova puts it head and shoulders above Bellroy’s competitive offerings. With great card slot features and a killer price, you have to add this to your collection.

Today we are going to review the Aurochs Nova wallet. All Aurochs come in a padded envelope that is a piece of work on its own. When we open it up we have a beautiful little wallet. It has nice stitching in all of its corner areas for reinforcement and has a nice feel to it. It is also nice and thin unlike the Aurochs Gravity bifold wallet.

Now to the feature review of the Aurochs Nova wallet. This one is gray in color and has some exterior features. On the right hand side we have a quick access card slot. On the left hand side, which could also be considered the back, is also another quick access slot. When the wallet is closed you have access to a card, or really it could be cash, on both sides.

When we open it up we can see that immediately on the left hand side, we have an inside back card slot or cash slot. On the front there is a quick access card slot that looks like it could hold one card.  On the right hand side it is an exact replicate. There is no bill fold pocket. It is expected to be operated as a quick access card, slim wallet.

Now to the card and cash insertion test.  I was able to get 8 cards and 5 slips of cash. It works with yen and euro but only on the outside. On the inside it interfered with the spine when you tried to close it. The company indicates it can hold 10 to 12 cards plus 5 to 6 slips of cash, which I think is really good. After filling the wallet with cards and cash it is actually pretty thin.

I really like the feel of this leather.  It’s 100% full grain leather from Southeast Asian tanneries. It is designed and made in Pakistan. The sewing is really good and the designs are really unique. It feels good and smells really good as well. This fold-over edging is well done. You can tell this design is very similar to the Bellroy slim sleeve design.  However, I like the cut of this leather a lot more because it is thicker. It also feels more durable than what we have with the Bellroy.

The leather is thinner than you would find with other traditional handmade wallets out there, but the design really dictates this and that’s fine. This is an excellent value. The exterior quick access slots are a little loose. You could have issues with cards falling out once it stretches a bit, but really if you have at least two cards in there, it should fit just fine and not give you any of those kinds of problems.

The measurements are 3 x 3.3 x 0.2” thin. The perception we have on this is it that it has a 100% money back guarantee. This is a wonderful organization based in Pakistan. They put a lot of thought into their design and what they produce. They are also an environmentally conscious corporation working towards a B corporation certification, very much like Bellroy.

For the final score: For quality, a 4. Price, a 5. Features, a 5. Usability, a 3 and perception, a 3. This gives us a final score of 3.9 out of 5.
