Can the TUMI Desoto be awesome with all man-made materials?

Unfortunately, the TUMI Desoto doesn’t seem to be available for sale any longer, but this bright carbon fiber designed blue is full of capacity and is durable. Made of all man-made materials, it’s not the type of wallet you’d expect to be awesome, but it is.

Today we are going to review the Tumi Desoto bi-fold wallet. It comes in quite a massive box compared to the size of the wallet. This one is a carbon fiber blue bi-fold. I really like this color. It is very vibrant. I don’t think there is anything natural about this, but it is still a cool looking wallet.

The following are the features of the Tumi Desoto bi-fold wallet. Tumi’s bi-folds are largely the same. There is nothing on the exterior. When we look on the inside, there is an ID card window. It has a quick access thumb push to get cards out. Behind that is another card slot and yet another card slot for cash behind that. Since there is no billfold pocket, you can put your cash inside the slot. On the right hand side there is a card slot on the front as well as two other slots behind that for a total of three. This provides a lot of capacity.

For the card and cash insertion test I was able to get seven cards plus five slips of cash folded over once into this wallet. It can handle more, but that’s a good beginning for this. By way of quality, it is made in China and made from all manmade materials. I really like this blue carbon fiber look. It functions very well and is easy to use. The one concern is being able to fit foreign currency. It did fit the United States currency just fine. If we look at the yen, there is not so much of an issue. Without any exterior capabilities or pockets to put other currency in, you are going to be limited to either folding it over twice or it would be best to use U.S. and Canadian currency with this particular wallet.

It measures 4.4 x 3 x 0.4”.  I love the carbon fiber look of this, but I can’t find this particular wallet for sale any longer. Tumi, like other large manufacturers, churn through their wallet models like crazy. Tumi has a reputation for good quality products and is something you should never be fearful of. Of course if you do have problems, Tumi’s a great support company and they will always back you up.

For the final score. For quality a 4. Price a 2. Features a 4. Usability a 4 and perception a 4.. That gives us a final score of 3.6 out of 5.
