We will introduce the Colville leather Longshore, a one-piece leather bifold wallet, made by Colville Leather and secured with rivets.
The wallet has no feature on the exterior, although I always wish there was a quick access card slot. The interior, on the other hand, has two card slots in the front, which are slits that connect back into the same area as the billfold pocket. The billfold pocket opens frontwards to allow currencies and notes to be placed in. The card slots can accommodate six to nine cards.
Colville Leather creates very attractive wallets of mixed designs, including this Longshore, which upon first inspection would seem very simplistic. However, the more you dive, the more it pulls you in. It measures 3.7 x 3.5 x 0.7” and weighs 57 grams.
The insertion test showed that it holds four to a reasonable six cards. The company makes no recommendation on the numbers of cards or cash, but it was designed to stretch over time, since it is leather. My recommendation is about nine cards before you reach the point from which you begin the stretching. Once you stretch leather, it is really hard to get it back down to a fewer number of cards. In practice, you can shrink leather, but that is a whole process which often can damage the leather.
From a quality perspective, this wallet is designed and made in the United Kingdom from a full-grain vegetable-tanned leather. It smells great, feels very pleasant, and is lightly burnished on the edges. The rivets are likely to be made of brass and they are well proportioned to the size of the wallet.
Thanks to the cut being not too thin nor too generous, the currency insertion and extraction works well even though it may look tight. The wallet reacts like it is already broken in because it comes with a very comfortable break-in already in place. Therefore, it does not require you to do much more. It fits nicely in the pocket, both the front and the rear. It is another example of a small shop producing excellent products via skill and talent derived from the time they spent learning. This does not happen overnight, but it takes a skilled eye and creativity to come up with.
The final score of the Colville Leather Longshore is 5 for quality, 3 for the price, a 3 for features because it delivers what is expected of it, usability scores a 4, because the proper sizing and proportions make this wallet a beauty to feel and look at, and that is what contributes to the features. With 4 for perception, the wallet scores a great total score of 4 out of 5.
Made from full-grain veg tanned leather, this bifold wallet is held together only using rivets.
