The Pioneer Carry Flyfold 2.0 built on the successful release of the original Flyfold 1.0, which came out in 2018. So what makes this wallet better than its predecessor?
The Flyfold 2.0 comes in green, onyx, navy and black. There’s a difference between onyx and black, apparently. It’s a very traditional bi-fold and it is structured differently than the original Flyfold. That’s why this is 2.0. Looks like we have some advertising cards in here. Talks about future form. We’ll discuss that briefly. If we look at the stitching really closely, you can see how it comes together. Of course, this has a billfold pouch, so let’s do it.
Looking at the features, there aren’t any on the exterior. As we move to the interior, there are 2 interior card slots with capacity up to 12 cards. And of course there is a billfold pocket. Full bills, no folding necessary, but it does not fit taller currencies like Euro and Yen. It is also RFID protected and measures 3.1 by 4.2 by 0.2”, and weighs 40 grams or 1.4 ounces.
Wouldn’t it be nice to compare version one and version two?
One item is how a larger material loop is created. That’s what provides the capacity capability that we see. As the wallet gets full, it begins to expand using the space created by the larger loop. The is designed and engineered in the United States and made in Vietnam. It’s made from future form, a specific ripstop nylon fabric that operates and feels like leather, and can be broken in like leather. The material is not as rough to the touch and is definitely more pliable than the prior version of the Flyfold. And it really truly feels like it can be broken in. They say this 10XD nylon material is stronger than steel, made from a ultra high molecular weight polyethylene yarn.
It’s also treated with a DWR layer, which is that dirt, water, resistance coating. It keeps the wallet looking good and really makes it stand out. Other colors include: blue/white, black/white, and the blue/white I have in the 1.0 version. I’ll show you that in the comparison that we have coming up in another video. It also stand outs by including being waterproof, and it doesn’t absorb moisture. From a durability perspective, you can wash it and its sweat proof, which shows its resistance to salt.
Out of the gate, Pioneer Carry wallets have traditionally been very stiff, but the Flyfold 2.0 material is much softer, more pliable, and becomes even more so as time goes on.
For quality a 4, price a 3, features a 3, usability a 4, and perception a 4. That gives us a final score of 3.7 out 5. If you’d like to see a comparison between these two, then watch this video next.
A cult-favorite billfold stripped down to the very essentials for simplicity and increased strength. Our slimmest billfold by far. The Flyfold is the one style that truly embodies our ethos of pioneering beyond convention and optimizing for active lifestyles.
