Using innovative 10XD ripstop fabric created for the Pioneer Carry Flyfold 1.0, it behaves and matures like leather, but is stronger than steel. Design or the needs of active individuals and those looking for a cool material offering, the Flyfold is what your astronaut friends would be carrying! If you’d like to see the new Flyfold 2.0, it’s gone through a dramatic change

The Pioneer Carry Flyfold wallet is made out of futuristic material. Pioneer Carry continues to expand their product line and the Flyfold keeps up the progress. This wallet comes packaged in a very sturdy flip up envelope with the wallet being stored in a nylon pouch with geometric shapes imprinted into the fabric which mimics the company brand. The consistency of a brand illustrating itself through packaging demonstrates a sense of wanting their customers to have a great experience.
The material is very intriguing and has a great texture. The design and process by which they manufacture this type of material, and their choices on how they put this together, helped maintain a slim profile. As with leather, this takes a little bit of time to break in, but it is much stronger. It also contains RFID material. I don’t know whether it’s actually part of the material or separate, but in having had conversations with their product team, if they had their choice, they would not include RFID, but everybody thinks they need it, therefore they use it. To be clear, we don’t need RFID blocking, it’s a scam.
There are no features on the exterior of the Pioneer Carry Flyfold. On the inside of this bi-fold there are 2 card insertion slots on both the left and right hand side. There is also a very generous billfold pocket area behind the card slots.
I was able to get four cards in both card slots and five slips of cash. All currencies will fit just fine. The wallet is deep enough, but is still thin and has a great slim profile which makes it great to work with. Minimalist carry on this would probably be two cards, one in each slot, but really you can get six overall. The company says it can fit four to ten cards.
The wallet is designed in the USA and is made in Vietnam from Futurefrom. Futureform is a Ripstop type 10XD fabric. It feels like leather, but it’s really stronger than steel. This is a super fabric that contains ultra high molecular weight polyethylene yarn woven into it. They also have another material called 3PN, which provides a nice tactile finish on this material. There is also reinforced stitching in the card slot area which is very visible and gives it a nice clean look. What makes this material really nice is that it is waterproof and it does not absorb any moisture. It can go through a washing machine and do just fine. As mentioned by the company, the wallet is quite stiff at first, but it will soften up over time due to heat and pressure. However, it won’t lose its strength.
Please refer to the YouTube video to see a waterproof demonstration of this wallet, and measures 4 x 3.4 x 0.5, while weighing 54 grams.
The heat fuse membrane gives the walls its structure and leather like feel. The core technology helps the wallet break in and mold without breaking down or wearing out prematurely. I have read comments from users with very active lifestyles who have had this wallet for two or three years, exposing it to sweat, heat and water, and say it wears like a champ and looks like it is still brand new.
For the final score: quality a 4, price a 3, features a 3, usability a 4 and perception a 4. That gives us a final score of 3.7 out of 5.
A cult-favorite billfold stripped down to the very essentials for simplicity and increased strength. Our slimmest billfold by far. The Flyfold is the one style that truly embodies our ethos of pioneering beyond convention and optimizing for active lifestyles.
