Today’s review is on the Wingback Winston wallet. It comes packaged in a double thickness cotton bag which is made in Poland. The bag is repurposable and really looks good. The leather is whiskey colored with blue thread I chose as part of the ordering process. The packaging includes a card which gives you information about the leather. Their stamp is currently located on the front of the wallet, but in future productions, they will be moving it to the back.
We’ve reviewed the Wingback Cash and Wingback Card wallet in the past and are fans of their material and build quality.
There are no features on the exterior of the Winston wallet. When opened, there is a card slot on both the right and left hand sides in the interior. There is an open billfold slot in the back, which can hold cash flat depending on the currency. Open billfold means that the front card slots can pull back to reveal the billfold pocket space. You could also put cards in this area.
I was able to get four cards and six slips of US cash inside folded once. The wallet is set to fit euros and British pounds flat in the space. Canadian and Australian dollars will work if they are folded over once. However, Yen is not going to work.
Minimalist carry would be two cards, reasonable up to six. The company says it can hold up to twelve cards and twenty slips of cash when lying flat. Holding twelve cards will really stretch the leather, but it would work.
The wallet is designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom. It is made from a full grain veg tan, environmentally-certified, premium Tuscan leather that is laser cut, and has a hand saddle stitch. The thread is a heavy gauge Gutterman thread from Germany. The edges are beveled throughout the pocket area. This is something Wingback does on all of their wallets. It adds great attention to detail. It gives the illusion of thinness, even though you still have the weight and thickness of the leather throughout the body. It also has nice painted edges, great texture and a lot of attention to detail. When you purchase this wallet, you get to choose your leather color, thread color and even add a personalized message, which will be laser etched.
Wingback mentions it can also fit your passport. It is a clever secondary use, where you open up the wallet flat, put the back of your passport inside the billfold slot. You can still carry your cards in the slots like you would find with many passport wallets.
It measures 3.74 x 2.95 x .4”, and weighs 51 grams. These tight dimensions make it a perfect front pocket carry wallet.
The company says you can try it for 30 days or keep it for 30 years. This is an excellent example of a maker company who cares about the entire life cycle of their product offering.
They stand behind everything they make and say they will replace, repair or refund any product that does not meet their standard.
For the final score: for quality a 5, price a 3, features a 3, usability a 4, and perception a 4. That gives us a final score of 4 out of 5.
Adding a proper bifold wallet to the Wingback wallet line, the Winston is a tight bifold with the ability to handle cards and cash with eash, the perfect front pocket wallet
