Rainbow Wallet; VELCRO is still KING

You might think this is a crypto wallet, it's not. Since the 1970's, the Rainbow wallet company has produced bifold nylon velcro wallets. Durable nylon with many pockets and zippers, all kept closed and secure with velcro, or hook and loop if you prefer. The sound of velcro never gets old!

If you remember back to the 1970s, the age of Velcro wallets was big. I had one, and everyone else who was cool had one, too. Rainbow of California has been making Velcro wallets since the disco ball days in the 1970s.

It comes in 14 colors. There are no appreciable features on the exterior and it’s made from high quality nylon. Once opened up, you have one, two, three, four card slots and an ID slot in the middle. It also has a very generous billfold pocket and a zipper, which opens you up to another cavernous pocket where additional things can go such as cash, receipts, gym shorts, all kinds of stuff could go in there.

It measures 5 x 3.3 x 0.5” inches, and weighs 52 grams. That’s 1.8 ounces. All currencies work just fine, and it was cavernous. The company makes no recommendations around the capacity, but it’s very high, and it’s a little thick.

This is designed and made in the United States, from the 1970s until today. It’s made of a 600 Denier nylon, double stitched for strength. It’s all double stitched all the way around and on all edges, where a ribbon is used to protect this nylon body. Every place where you’d have an exposed edge has ribbon sewn around it. The hook and loop closure has a common name called Velcro, but that is a trademark, but its common name is hook and loop closure.

These wallets last for years. I know people who’ve had one in their pocket, since the 1970s. Very lightweight, water resistant and washable. It’s very flexible, so it will form your body, and the Velcro keeps it tight. So let’s get into the final score. For quality, a 4. Great materials, great construction. Price, a 4. Priced really well for a USA-made product. Got to love that. Features, a 4. Lots of flexibility, and that second zipper pocket is really nice. Usability, a 3. No issues there and perception, a 3. That gives us a final score of 3.6 out of 5.
