ROIK Zip Coin Wallet, ROIK places RFID in their wallets. Though it is not ideal, however, to facilitate tap payment, the exterior pocket shown of this wallet does not have RFID. That said, everything else on the inside is RFID, therefore, moving to the interior of the wallet, there is one card slot on the left and another card slot on the right. When we open it up, it has an open billfold design. The main feature is the zip capability which is fairly deep and provides flexibility and can be adequate as a pouch for coins, keys or any other small items that would fit in. The wallet is mostly leather material, which offers stretching and expansion features bedside the gusseted portion.
When it comes to the card and cash insertion test, since this was made in Europe, the open billfold design works with all the Euro denominations, including the 50 and 100 notes, thanks to the precision in the cuts on this particular wallet. However, if the notes are just a little too long, they will need to be folded, in particular the U.S dollar. The Pound fits except for the 50 note. But as this note is going away in 2021, this should cease to be an issue.
For the test we had put four cards, five slips of cash, and added two coins, which goes in without any problems. Three to five cards is reasonable, however the company states that it can hold up to nine cards in addition to containing the coins in the zipper pouch.
This wallet is designed and manufactured in Spain, it is handcrafted using premier leather, it comes in nine color options and most importantly, it is of a good quality leather and smells good.
Concerning the zipper, it was not possible to determine the manufacturer of this wallet zipper, although the customer is always looking for leading zipper vendors such as YKK, SBS or Riri. As the durability of a zipper is important in such a product, if a zipper goes bad, the wallet becomes ineffective. Metal zippers are more durable than the plastic one, generally but are more nuanced. Therefore, a resin based zipper is not automatically less durable.
From a usability perspective it is very thin, making it conveniently enjoyable to carry in a front pocket. Pulling cards in and out is easy with just one thumb. Thanks to the tight tolerances and good usability expressed in the design, the cards can hold in place without the risk of falling out. Of course, the coins are going to move around a bit, but that is to be expected.
The wallet measures 3.7 x 3 x .55”, and weighs 44 g, which is reasonable. From a perception perspective, they have a three-year warranty, which is a positive supporting aspect. The ROIK Company was created by two 30 years old’s Rosa and Eric who never liked to carry cumbersome or heavy wallets. And like many inventions that are born, when people cannot find what they want, they make it themselves. The creators designed a very thin, comfortable, and less cumbersome wallet in their mind. The entire production of ROIK wallets is carried out by hand in a workshop at Ubrique, Spain, a land with a long tradition of production of leather products. The artisans who produce them have been working for four generations on small leather goods such as this. Therefore, it is easily trusted that it is a quality product liked by many people.
